June-Oct 2016
2016 Summer Season marked by important preservation work at Crail Ranch. Preservation of the Crail Ranch structures is a primary mission of the Historic Crail Ranch Conservators. This work is funded by grants and contributions of our many generous donors.
In June the Conservators initiated a project to replace the porch on the main cabin. In August work was completed to replace the roof on the historic small cabin.  Work began right after Labor Day on the largest project of the summer — to replace the aging roof on the main cabin.
As part of the roof project, the chimneys are being restored with rock facing. Recent investigation and early picture views of the main cabin indicate that the west chimney was originally rocked. The east chimney, added in the 1960s, was of plain cement, but it is also being re-faced with rock at this time for a more consistent rustic appearance.
The Outhouse Revisited. Even the rustic outhouse was re-roofed by Mike Durant as an extra part of the summer building program.
